Final Exam review.

The Rebels in Cairo, Egypt are still in the power struggle with their corrupt government who was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of its' own citizens. Following the attack of this morning the rebels or the government seem to be letting up the battle is being taken across the country as the fight for justice presses on.

The Cruiser 1-9568 has taken lift off to the new planet Forgus 9-0 to explore the surface of the planet for the first time and bring back some samples from the green planet. The planet was discovered by none other than Dr. Zigersbie, a Russian Astronomer who had discovered the planet four years ago.

1. Rule of thirds - The Main subject of the photo is on one of the four corners.

2. Balancing Elements - The photo has an equal amount of objects in it and doesn't look awkward.

3. Leading Lines - The viewer is lead to look at a certain point of the photograph.

4. Symmetry and Patterns (repetition) - Symmetry is when you see the photo and you can cut or bend it in half and the look of one side will be the same as the one on the other side.

5. Viewpoint - Getting a different perspective in the photo that no one usually does.

6. Background - What is behind the subject of your picture and the background is supposed to make the photograph look interesting and make the person or object stand out or blend in a bit.

7. Create depth - In the photo you can see the subject and you can see the background go off a certain distance and gives the feeling that you are actually there.

8. Framing - The subject of the photo is in center or what have you and it has a good background with nothing cut out or a bad merger.

9. Cropping - There isn't wasted space in the photo.

10. Mergers and avoiding them - Mergers are when the photographer snaps the photo but has parts of objects or parts of people or really bad blurs.

Aperture -The camera is able to control how big or small the aperture is and how much light travels in the lens.

ISO - ISO is the sensitivity that the camera has, the lower the ISO the less sensitivity it has. The higher the ISO the higher the sensitivity to light it is.

Shutter Speed - Shutter speed is how fast the photo is taken. If your taking a photo of a fast moving object the faster the shutter speed has to be so it can catch the object if the shutter speed is slow on a fast object the object will have a motion blur.

To get your folder onto the server you make a blogger account using gmail and when you get your blogger set up you just copy your url and send it to the teacher and he ads you to the photoj blog page.Whenever your on the blogger  and you make a post you just click the orange pencil looking thing and publish your blag. And it is added to your blog on the akins photoj blog.

Manipulating photos in photo shop are okay just to make the resolution and other things look a lot clearer. But using photo shop to make someone look thinner or fatter or generally make a person look like something that is far off from what they really are is unethical. Ethical photo shop is maybe doing minor fixes on someone like fixing fly a ways on the their hair go away or if asked to clean up their blemishes that is okay to do. IF they ask.

Environmental portrait- A photograph that has a background  that tells a story rather than using words and a subject that gives more emphasis to the photograph.

Self portrait - A photograph of a person either looking at the camera or looking away a bit. A self portrait can be formal of informal.

Casual Portrait - A casual portrait is a photograph that the person in the photo themselves are not doing anything so planned out but something like caught in the moment kind of.

Exposure - amount of light that is passed through the camera.

Depth of Field - The distance between the closest object and the farthest.

Focal Length - Distance from the lens to the film.

Self Portrait and Portraits Review

Creating a theme:

Two items make a photo, the subject and backdrop, and I think that they are equally important. This is where your lens choice comes into play. A long lens allows you to send the back ground out of focus and narrow down the amount of background in the photo. A wide lens keeps the background in focus and allows it to be a key part of the image. Either way the background is playing a big factor by being a key element or by not distracting from the subject.
Lighting, a single flash can do wonders for your portraits. I won’t go into any lighting details, but photography is about capturing light. You don’t need to buy a flash, I first started learning lighting using work lights. You can pick up a small but powerful work light from home depot for around ~$15.

Portray emotion:

Want your photos to look boring, then act bored. The facial and body expressions you make are huge in setting the tone of the photo. This is where having a tethered setup can really help (you will be able to see results and nail it down). Aim for over the top, I mean really go crazy. The more emotion you show the better the photo will turn out.
Environmental Portrait.
The reason why I chose this photo is the emotion in the kids faces and the type of background really shows the distress the kids are in and how they feel inside and out.
I loved this photo because it looked a lot like an interpretive dance and the form this girl is holding and the feeling she is demonstrating is amazing to me.
Casual Portrait.
This photo stood out to me because of the way the family are just sitting and enjoying each others company and the baby makes the picture very adorable and is the way a family should be. Happy and enjoying each others company.

I like this photo because it is showing two young people in love and just walking and having a nice evening being with one another. I also like how the light has that glow on the outline of their bodies.
Formal Portrait.
I like the photo for the reason that it looks so retro and the colors that it has are unique to me. and it just looks amazing.

I like this photo because of the way the child is just so happy and innocent. I chose this because i like the lighting of it and the black backdrop makes the kid and the horse stand out and is the first thing you see.

Photography Self Portrait

I like this photograph because of the creative concept that this guy had. I chose this photo for its' unique and funny/amazing idea. and since he has nothing in the background and it's completely white IO focus more on him cause he stands out more.

I like this photo because of the lighting the picture has and the brightness the cloudy breath has and the outline of her head. This photo is amazing to me and i love the certain "style".

The subject I will be shooting is just regular people that you see in the halls and try to make them express an emotion that they are feeling at the moment as best as possible. I would like to shoot outside but maybe for the some parts of the shoot if people aren't comfortable with it we will be shooting inside. I will try to include the rules of photography in some away and maybe make the background blur a bit or fade so that the subject is better able to spot and understand hat they are doing.

Three Pillars of Exposure: Shutter Speed !

This photo is taken at a high shutter speed.

And this photo here was taken at a slow shutter speed.

If the sun was still up and the the sun light was dimming out a little..
a)  For the dunking booth I'd use a fast shutter since the person being dunked will be falling a little fast.
b) For the food eating contest not much is going on there but I'd probably use a speed that isn't slow or fast so like a regular shutter speed.
c) For the rock wall photos the speed should depend on how fast the person is going, but I think using a fast shutter speed just to be safe I guess.
d) I would use a medium shutter speed for the people that are working at the booths because maybe they are fast working or something. Want to get the moment you know.
e) For the DJ working in the circle I would use a medium speed shutter.
f) For the Diamonds performance I would use a fast shutter speed since they are dancing and what not.

If the courtyard was dark..
a) For the dunking both I think I would use the flash and a slow shutter speed.
b) For the food eating contest I would use a medium shutter speed.
c) For the rock climbing I'd use a slow shutter speed.
d) For the people working at the booths I'd use a medium shutter.
e) For the DJ I'd probably use the fast shutter speed adn if not then the medium shutter.
f) For the diamonds I'd use the medium shutter speed. Hopefully they would put up the lights for them and stuff.

The three shutter speeds on the camera.

There is the manual mode were the the shutter speed is set at the basic setting.

Aperture Priority mode is where you set the aperture lens  meanwhile the camera automatically sets the shutter speed.

There is the shutter priority mode and that is where you set the shutter speed and the camera automatically sets the aperture mode.

Understanding Exposure.

 1. For an f/4 the shutter speed of 1/125 sec looks the best for that particular f number.  The background of the photo looks blurry and the couple are the only ones that stand out the most.

 2. For f/5.6 the shutter speed of 1/60 looks better for that f number.  The background is still blurry but looks better than then before.

 3. For f/8 the shutter speed of 1/60 looks good with that one.  The photos foreground of the couple got a little bit darker. Background is still blurry.

 4. For f/11 the shutter speed of 1/60 looks great together. The couple again got a bit more darker but the background of the building got a bit more visible.

 5. For f/16 the shutter speed of 1/30 looks a bit better but is dark but it is better than all the other shutter speeds. The photo looks the same as it was when it was f/11and 1/60 but the clothes and the building shifted into place a bit and are a little more visible as well.

 6. For f/22 the shutter speed of 1/15 is the best choice to go with. The building is starting to look a bit more clear and the couple got a little blurry now.

The people that are being shot at slower shutter speeds are becoming blurrier than before when using high shutter speeds.
I think the photographer can set the shutter speed at 1/8 and the f/22 and it'll make the picture a lot better.

I think the lowest shutter speed a photographer can use is the 1/8.

TEST RESULTS!
For the first test of the depth of field I was rated as a keep trying. Some questions didn't have any pictures so I was confused.

For the  second test of the Shutter speed and motion I was rated as Good Work !

Now that I've taken the test and know what I got right and what I got wrong showed me what is what and now I feel like I can better now identify when to use the riht shutter speed and the aperture.

Three Pillars of Exposure: ISO

ISO: 200

ISO: 6400

1. When shooting in the high ISO setting the advantage you get shooting at any sporting event is that the picture comes out a whole lot clearer and the subject is more visible to the viewer rather than it looking so cloudy like.
2. The author of the site suggested that only use ISO at its low setting when there is plenty of light but as he said in some cases if you want to you can use the Low ISO setting in dim areas.
3. The Author mentioned to use the ISO high setting hen there isn't a lot of light or when taking a picture of something moving at a high speed.

Three pillars of exposure: Aperture

1. Aperture can be closely related to the eye. For the reason of the eyes focus on specific objects. And in this case it is thew cats head as you can clearly see here.
2. The smaller the aperture size, the higher the aperture number.
3. Aperture Depth of Field is important to remember. So if the aperture is small then the area of focus is large, if the aperture is larger the smaller the focus are of a photo.

Great Black and White Photographers Part 3

1. What caught my attention of the other photographers black and white photos are the expressions that it has and that it shows. The shadows and what the photo is about catches my eye. Especially when there is people involved.

2. From looking at the photos of the "Great Black and White Photographers part 2"

From the first photo of the woman I see the way she look calm and relaxed in this. The person who took the photo must have saw her beauty and wanted a natural chill looking photograph.
When thinking about this photo I feel peaceful for some reason. Just looking at her makes me feel calm.
When looking at the flower photograph I picture hearing birds chirping and feeling the sun on my skin and the wind blowing on my face.
And so looking at the two photos I picture smelling clean fresh air. Maybe some flowers or Dust depending on where the woman is.

3. I would like to do a Power Point to expose this great artist. Maybe showing his very first photo he's ever taken and gradually show all the photos that he's taken over the course of his year as a professional artist. Like displaying that even professionals had to start off small and have a rough time trying to get the perfect shot at times but then they end up able to catch their dream of making it big and them well known.

Mural Project Preview.

The kind of subjects that I could use to go about the Akins High school mural could be something showing how hard each and every student works to make the grade. Another thing I could do is the fun side that everyone has instead showing the dull and boring side of being here. Like showing everyones not so tense side just the students being corky and having the time of their life.

Showing how fun students can be seems kind of worth it. It's a lot more fun showing how the students have to work hard each and every day seems good to me. I guess since it's showing the differences of everyone but yet we can have fun times and make memories happen together and not being tied down and uptight, Like most students are, we can be able to be ourselves.

The advantages to using the phones camera (depending what phone) can save time and money then actually going out to get a camera to use for  short time period. The disadvantages of using the camera phone is that the camera may be to slow to take the shots and the memory the phone can carry may end up being maxed out and it's kind of a hassle.

Using an SLR camera has the advantage of it being able to take quick photos and you can change the type of lens you are using to something that better suits the situation. The disadvantage to using one of these is that you have to be extremely careful because if the camera lens brakes it is expensive to replace. And you have to make sure all the items that the camera came with is all accounted for.

I think it is better to use the phones camera. It's portable easy to store away for safe keeping and we have our cell phones at the ready to take photos of things that are happening at the moment. And the other thing is that the user will be able to decide what is better to use like the setting on the camera phone. The last thing is that we are more comfortable to use our phones for pictures since we take so many.

Black/white Africa powerpoint response.

The photos from the power point had shown the animals at peace with themselves and showed a side of them that seemed very calm and loving. I loved the photos in the slides. There were a whole lot of different animals that you would usually see react violently but that aren't. There were a lot of emotions the I felt looking through it. Happy, Peaceful, calm. It nearly brought me to tears. (No lie)

The picture of this lions has a lot of feelings that I get by just staring at it. I feel the calm and collected side of the lion and it is relaxing which is kinda cool to see. I love the symbol of pride the lion gives and this is just showing it well to me.

The rule of thirds is used in this photo because it has it on one side of the photo and simplicity because you can tell what the photo is about. There isn't anything random about this photo it's a photo of a lion that is relaxing and the background of the sky makes it pop out more.

The photographer is Nick Brandt. THe type of camera he uses is the Pentax 6711with only two fixed lenses.
His reason for theses photos are that he wants to show the personality of the animals by getting up close. "You wouldn't take a portrait of a human being from a hundred feet away and expect to capture their spirit; you'd move in close."
He hopes to make the expressions of the animals seem more real and tries to get close as possible to better show the animals expressions.
"What I am interested in is showing the animals simply in the state of Being. Before, in the wild at least, they cease to exist. This world is under terrible threat, all of it caused by us. To me, every creature, human or nonhuman, has an equal right to live, and this feeling, this belief that every animal and I are equal, affects me every time I frame an animal in my camera. The photos are my elegy to these beautiful creatures, to this wrenchingly beautiful world that is steadily, tragically vanishing before our eyes"

Academic Shoot Reflection.

The hard thing that I had to do was actually try not disturb people and have them look at me while I shoot. Then there was the matter of finding great moments to get a shot, often times I missed great chances of a good take.

I kept in mind of having a nice clean photo so I tried not to move to much even though the object was moving or it was going to notice. Like when I was in the choir room I tried not to make to much noise for the ones who were singing. The way the picture would look to like what kind of view it would be. I had to get down on my knees or stand taller to make it a bit better.

I would make the photos a lot brighter than have them looking dark and all. Maybe I could've chosen better things to take photos of and better positions as well.

I would use the same rules same rooms that I went in  and lastly I would keep my  attitude the same way which is eager and positive.

Rule of thirds seem to be the easiest to spot next time.

The thing that would be hard for me to find would be the balance one. It's kind of hard to find something that is symmetrical when most of the school is trying to be different in my any way so it looks interesting.

I have no misunderstanding with the rules It's all okay for me.

Academics shoot.

Lines
I followed the rule well. Made the picture at an angle so the peoples eyes can travel down the line to the door of success!
The subject was the door that is the start of the students road to success in life. And the door between lessons and the real world.
I think the people can see what my subject is. I tried to make it clear as much.
I would've captured someone actually going in the through the doors but no one was going in or out the door at the time.

Simplicity
I think I did good at this photo of simplicity but it seemed awkward when I was just standing there and the girl didn't seem to like or understand what was going on. But overall it looks good to me.
The subject as you can see is the girl.
I think and hope the viewer knows what my subject is.
I would've maybe have her not to knowing in this photo. It docent look right the way I wanted it to look. I wanted it to look like she is just minding her own business but instead she looks awkward.
Rule of Thirds
This photograph of this rule is fair. It docent look good to me but it looks okay I guess. the hard thing for me to capture the picture was that it was a little to dark and the guy was walking away fast so it doesn't look as good.
The subject is the guy leaving towards the courtyard.
The viewer can see the subject well but since it is dark I can understand that they can't.
I would love to retake this picture again mainly because the poor lighting and to much glare and also the guy looks to far away to me.
Framing
This photo is alright for the framing rule. It shows a group of students working together and enjoying each others company. It was hard to not let them notice me taking the picture because if they saw me and knew that I was taking pictures of them they wouldn't look so natural in the photo they would look tense and awkward.
The subject of this photo would be team work amongst the students in the class.
Hopefully the viewers will know what the subject is by just glancing at the photo.
The thing I would do differently is try to make it more clear and less far away.

Avoiding merges
I think personally this photo shows the rule well. I tried my best to get a few people cut off the photo without noticing me. If they saw they would scatter away from the camera.
The subject here is hard to tell for me but I think if I were to choose on it's be the knowledge filled library here and the books the students are looking at.
I know the viewer will get confused here about what to look for in the subject but hopefully they'll understand the rule.
I wouldn't rally change anything here in this photo it looks like  a good example of avoiding merges.
Balance
I did good on finding balance here. the only thing that is a bit off here is the color of the red block wall that aren't a good example of balance but then again I was shooting the columns not the wall.
The subject was the balance in the number of columns.
The viewer will look at the wall first but will hopefully understand that the columns are the ones balanced
I would possibly choose something more to be in this photo rather than this random looking wall and columns.

Academics photo preview

The Best story

This photo tells me the story of what these kids are doing to help out people that are in need of some help. Giving the homeless food seems to me like the reason behind the cause could be told in this photograph.

Action/Emotion

The girls i this photograph have a happy exciting look on their face.

Fills the frame.
You can see everyone here even the pole that is there. It look like a peaceful gathering that they are all having.

I picked this photo for its emotional value to me and anyone who is close to graduation. It's the most exciting and he most scary Event in our lives and it really is striking.
The rules of photography are line, color, form, texture, rhythm and Unity.

I could take photos like this in the band hall or the theatre and mainly in the Performing arts center.

I'd like to take the photos in the PAC or the classes that are most active.

Get the students as they are performing or are engaged/caught in their work that they are ignoring everyone else but they show their passion for what they do.

Photo Composition- Avoid Mergers.

Merger.

The picture has people cut off and you can only see the tops of their heads and can't really make out who they are. This is an example of what not to do.

Photo Composition- Framing.

Framing.

The photograph is well framed to the point you can see everything. All of the buildings even the twin towers there and it is an outstanding view.

Photo Composition- Balance

Symmetrical Balance

The building in this photo are balanced in the way you can fold or make a line down the middle and you'd have a great split evenly.
