Photo Composition- Avoid Mergers.

Merger.

The picture has people cut off and you can only see the tops of their heads and can't really make out who they are. This is an example of what not to do.

Photo Composition- Framing.

Framing.

The photograph is well framed to the point you can see everything. All of the buildings even the twin towers there and it is an outstanding view.

Photo Composition- Balance

Symmetrical Balance

The building in this photo are balanced in the way you can fold or make a line down the middle and you'd have a great split evenly.

Photo Composition- Lines

Lines

The angle of this hallway shows how the photographer followed this rule and it looks pretty amazing to me. it make the viewer look down that direction and wonder.

Photo composition-The rule of Thirds

The Rule of thirds

The Vehicle here is on the bottom right corner,as you can see, and it shows the rule of thirds well enough.

Photo composition- Simplicity

 Simplicity.

I chose this photo because I like the way the sky makes a great background and the buildings just stand out to me and look very cool.

Elements of Art and Principles of Design.

Line
Line - marks made by a pointed tool: brush, pencil, pen, etc. Lines can vary in width, direction, curvature, length, or color.
I chose this photo for the way it goes to one point of the picture and looks like it goes on forever and into nothing.

This painting has lines value because of the way the bar goes out to the left and the borders of the windows.

Shape  -formed wherever the ends of a continuous line meet. Geometric shapes such as circles, triangles or squares have perfect, uniform measurements and don't often appear in nature. Organic shapes are associated with things from the natural world, like plants and animals.

I chose these bottles with drops of dye because of the way the dye bends and twist make all new unique shapes.
The Painting/drawing of this flower has beautiful arch shaped petals and the values and the colors of it make the whole painting come together very nicely.

Color - formed wherever the ends of a continuous line meet. Geometric shapes such as circles, triangles or squares have perfect, uniform measurements and don't often appear in nature. Organic shapes are associated with things from the natural world, like plants and animals.
I chose this photograph to represent color because the street lights are various colors and look pretty amazing. The color lights themselves have values to them as well.
This Painting has many types of colors that make a the painting really bold and mysterious.

Value (Tone) - or tone, refers to dark and light; the value scale refers to black and white with all gradations of gray in between. Value contrasts help us to see and understand a two-dimensional work of art.
I chose this photo for its dark grey and black shades mixed in with white.
I chose this photo because of its shading and different types of shading.

Form-   describes objects that are three-dimensional, having length, width, and height.
I picked this photo for its unique way of how it looks and the way it bends and pops out to you a little.
This painting has many different lengths when it comes to the people and the height of the arch gate thing.

Texture- can be rough, bumpy, slick, scratchy, smooth, silky, soft, prickly--the list is endless. Texture refers to the surface quality, both simulated and actual, of artwork.
To me this looks like this would have a prickly fuzzy type of feeling to it if I ever touched it.
The painting here seems to have a rough ridged texture to it like if the artist wanted to make it seem like that.
Space - refers to distances or areas around, between, or within components of a piece. Space can be positive (white or light) or negative (black or dark), open or closed, shallow or deep, and two-dimensional or three-dimensional.
This cheetah is in an open field alone with nothing near it.
The swordfish is in a empty space with no other object near it.

Balance- Symmetrical lines either straight down or across and each one will be even.

The photograph is perfectly symmetrical.

Contrast-is created using complementary colors or extremely light and dark values.
This photo has contrast from the whites and grey colors on this child.

Emphasis-the viewer will focus on the area of emphasis or center of interest first, then take in the rest of the composition.
Since the red heart stands out the most and is the first thing you see I chose this as the Emphasis.

Movement-is a visual flow through the composition. It can be the suggestion of motion in a design as you move from object to object by way of placement and position

This photo depicts a man moving but it seems as if he is frozen in time. This type of motion is what makes me think if he got hit with something in the back.

Patterns are made in art when the same shapes or elements are repeated again and again.

The natural pattern of this flower is truly beautiful. It is repetitive but in a stunning way.

Rhythm is the repetition of shapes, lines, and forms.

The repetition of the design on the cylinders are beautiful.

Unity means that all elements in an artwork are in harmony. Unity brings together a composition with similar units.

This photo I chose for the reason that it seems very peaceful and just relaxed. Everything blends in together very well and it is overall a very good photo.

Best and worse Photos.

I thought this photo I took was the worst one for it being so out of focus and not really all that good. This picture could have been better if I knew how to make the focus work at the time. Overall this is my worst photo I've ever taken.
This was my best photo ever because it is so clear and you can actually see the person here so clearly as day. Finding out how to make the focus work was the challenge for me since it was the first time I ever held it. But all in all it was a great photo the best out of the many that I've taken ever since being in the class.

Photo manipulation and ethics.

Photo manipulation has been a problem due to the fact that some reporting journalists have used adobe Photoshop to alter the photos they take. The altered photos are then released and discovered that they have been messed with. The person that was a journalist had been fired and lost their credibility as a reporter.
The photo altering thing is very unethical mainly because it bends the total truth and the public end up accepting this altered truth that is presented to them and causes a world of trouble.
Most unethical !
This photo of Oprah Winfrey is an unethical one for the way they changed her body. They person who published this photo took the body of a different woman and put Oprah head on it. It seems rather insulting that they would that out there like this. It's clearly stating that Oprah's body image needs to be changed to look like that one in the photo.
Least unethical.
The photo that national geographic put out isn't all that bad. Since it isn't hurting anyone's image or reputation. The picture that is shown is just trying to catch some eyes and interest people into reading the geographic magazine. But others often times do hurt other people or cause drama.

POST SHOOT REFLECTION

http://rebeccaphotojblog.blogspot.com/
I really like the photo selection she has they are very interesting. especially of the Red, Metal, and Happy photos they are very unique. I love the angles and the contrast of her photos. Very nice.
The photos are great but the one thing i would pike out is the originality of them. they are common photos that most people would pick over and over time again. Maybe think outside the box a little.

National Geographic contest

This picture stood out to me for how amazing this shot looks. I love the tornado/flame/lightning bolts going towards it, it's just one in a lifetime shot and seems like an amazing experience. Just beautiful.
The photograph that I would take that represents the world as I see it would be a photo of how natural and beautiful the nature side of it can be. Just pure innocent and untouched. More of a landscape that IS untouched by man.

40 Greatest Photos Ever !!!

Robyn Beck
I chose this photo for a couple reasons. One was because it caught a special moment of a family being reunited after 12 years. The emotion of the girls in this photo makes you feel like your actually there with them feeling their joy.  The photo was well shot and is extremely clear and your able to see very detail of the people. Like the vain on the girl neck or the glistening teas running down the other girls cheek showing how much they are feeling. I think it's the emotion of the girls themselves that caught a lot of attention. Actions speak louder than words.
William Anders
The photo shows the planet that we live on and it was the first of many photos. It's outstanding that our planet look like this. It just makes you want to take care of it. we only have one planet and one shot at it but when you see in on our level it's trashy in most places. I like how the photo is showing how the earth looks in a differant point of veiw. Almost like it's an alien planet to us and we are the one living on the moon. The photo was probably on 4o greatest photos ever mainly for it being the first photograph of the earth ever and how clearly your able to see it.
Justin Lane-Pool
what made me pick this photo was the moment of this man next to the memorial and how the focus of this photograph is on him, your eyes just gravitate to him. The focus on the man and how the background people are all blurry really makes this man stand out more. I think it was that it was at the memorial at the world trade center and just the whole tragedy itself and adding to it may seem like the old man lost someone there. Guessing by the way he shows his respects.

Camera Parts

Aperture- In photography the aperture is a small opening in which light travels.

Shutter- the shutter controls the exposure of the photograph.

Exposure- How much light is going into the picture.

Depth of field- is the distance from the object and the camera in the scene.

F-stop- Ratio of the lens focal length.

Focal Length- measurement of how strong the divergent or convergent light is.

Camera History

1. The camera obscura has a dark box and a hole and the light goes through it and the image is then projected.

2. The lens was invented in the 17th century by Issac newton and Christopher Huygens. The lens was the second step of creating the modern camera.

3. The camera that was created by Niepce consisted of a dark box, lens, and film.

4. Polaroid cameras have things in common with Niepce's creation.

5. Digital cameras use CCD to capture images.

6. Auto mode completely controls the flash and exposure automatically so you don't have to do it. Program mode has auto-assit and you can control all the functions other than auto mode.

7. In portrait mode the camera will try to blur the background and use the fastest lens setting possible.

8. Sport mode is for things that area on the move. It'll use the fastest shutter speed and snap the picture like frozen motion.

9. Half press is important to do so you have a better chance at the great shot and have better composition of the photo. Also for a better response when the time comes.

10. The symbol means the flash is off. The best time to use the disabled flash is in a very lighted room so the person doesn't look to light.

11. That symbol mean the flash is enabled. I would use the flash in a dark room or a room with poor lighting.

12. Too much light will wash out the picture.

13. Not enough light then you won't be able to see the photo it'll be to dark.

14. "stop" is used to measure the light intensity.

15. In the new world with 2 suns the world will be brighter by 1 stop.

16. In this world if there were 4 suns instead of two the world will be 2 stops brighter.

17. the longer shutter speed has more light.

18. A shorter shutter speed has less light.

19. the Aperture controls focus. the light has to go through so the Aperture is like a pupil.

20. you can control the amount of light by twisting the f-stop.
